On Weddings and Princes

Congratulations to my friend and co-worker Kathy on her beautiful wedding, which I had the honor to attend yesterday.

It was funny. During the reception/meal portion of the ceremony, my tablemates and I noticed that one of the songs being played on the overhead sound system was “When You Wish Upon a Star“. Naturally, this brought out everyone’s inner romantic and led to a conversation about Disney songs that would be nice to play at a wedding (don’t look so shocked to hear me talking about this – my love and admiration for Disney is well-documented).

Now, because I’ve always had an unhealthy fixation on Snow White  (jet black hair is my poison, as my raven-haired friends Jac McManus and Brandy Marie Conner can attest), my first thought was that some brides might want to play “Someday My Prince Will Come”

Of course, I was quick to add that I wouldn’t want my own wife to play that song at our wedding, because “if she thinks I’m a prince, she’s setting herself up for some serious disappointment.”

To this, my friend Adrienne cleverly responded: “Well in that case, J, the song would be appropriate. Think about it. She’ll be stuck with you for a while…but someday her real prince will come.”

I couldn’t help but laugh.
Fair enough, Adrienne. Fair enough.
